What brought me here?
Being a stay at home mum is a full time job in itself, but there comes a time when the children go to school and your time is filled with sitcoms and baking videos.
To give myself some sanity I thought of how I could fill my time and feel useful in the home. Thankfully I have hobbies, surely a hobby can pay the bills? Alas knitting is not a full time career!!
I’ve always made cakes for my children’s birthday and then for my nieces and nephew and soon the circle grew. I was making cakes for friends and family, so at some point I had to ask for something towards the cost of making the cakes.
From there I began to advertise my cake making services, I was in no way a professional but had a definite skill for decorating cakes and it really did fill a little hole in my heart.
And so it spiralled into a full blown business, not a profitable business, but non the less I am the proud owner of Cakes By Ruth. So I decided (prompted by my husband) to document the ups and downs of learning a craft and becoming a business owner.
